  • Mother's Day

I’ve found time and time again that mothers are truly some of the hardest working people on the planet, and many times the unsung heroes behind us all. I know this to be true of my own mother, Salma, as she did all she could possibly do to keep our family healthy and happy when I was growing up. It couldn’t have been easy, bringing her young family over to the United States, but my mother and father made it happen. It is to them that I owe my success, as they gave me the opportunity to live the American Dream.

I’ve told the story many times of how it was my mother that gave me the confidence to pursue the idea of Edible Arrangements. When all the experts were telling me that no one would buy arrangements made out of creatively designed fruit, my mother was convinced it was a great idea and encouraged me not to give up. She was my focus group of one, and as it turns out, the only focus group I needed.

“You know your customers better than anyone else,” she would always tell me. “If you believe your idea will work, don’t let anyone else get in the way of your dream.”

She was right, of course. It turns out that moms do always seem to know best.

The lessons my mother taught me growing up, in business and in life, are still essential parts of Edible Arrangements. Because she led me to the success my family and I can enjoy today, it’s important to me to honor her whenever possible. Mother’s Day is a great opportunity to honor her by giving back to all the hard-working mom’s across the country during a special day we get to celebrate them, although I believe their work should be celebrated every day!

In honor of my mom, and all mother’s, Edible Arrangements will be making bulk donations of fresh fruit in four major cities in the days leading up to Mother’s Day. While we encourage a healthy diet, I know from personal experience growing up that costs can sometimes prevent a family’s access to fresh produce. It is my hope that this donation can give some fresh fruit and leave a sweet taste in the mouths of the more than 600 families we expect to help feed through this project.

The donation schedule is:

May 5th, Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, Los Angeles, CA

May 8th, Crossroads Community Services, Dallas, TX

May 9th, Atlanta Community Food Bank, Atlanta, GA

May 11th, Food Bank for New York City’s Community Kitchen & Food Pantry, New York, NY

During this special day, we will also have the opportunity to help celebrate thousands of moms worldwide by delivering fresh fruit gifts. The busiest weekend of the year for Edible Arrangements, Mother’s Day provides the opportunity to send gifts to moms, grandmothers, aunts, sisters, best friends and more. You can find a local store near you and order a special sweet gift for your mom.

I look forward to the exciting times ahead for Edible Arrangements and am happy to honor my own mother while celebrating all of yours!
