—— Press Release ——

October 11, 2015 — The Tariq Farid Foundation today announced a $12,000 grant to Community Soup Kitchen in New Haven.

Founded in 2013 by Tariq Farid, the Founder and CEO of Edible Arrangements and numerous other companies, the mission of the Tariq Farid Foundation is to alleviate suffering by providing for the basic needs of food and healthcare, and to improve lives through the support of education and skill development opportunities that enable individuals to reach their full potential.

Located in the parish house of Christ Church, 84 Broadway in New Haven, the Community Soup Kitchen has been in operation since 1977. The guests of the soup kitchen include homeless people, working poor, veterans, mentally ill, chronic substance abusers, those living on welfare, the elderly and the lonely. In the past thirty-eight years, Community Soup Kitchen has provided over 1.6 million free meals to the hungry. Community Soup Kitchen is a private non-profit agency that receives no money from the city, state or federal government. The soup kitchen depends upon the generosity of the Greater New Haven community to support its mission of feeding hungry people.
David O’Sullivan, Coordinator of the Community Soup Kitchen stated, “The Tariq Farid Foundation grant of $12,000 will enable us to provide thousands of free nutritious meals to needy people in New Haven. We deeply appreciate the generosity of the grant and the confidence that the Foundation has in our ability to use these funds entrusted to us.”

Kelly Hebrank, Director of the Tariq Farid Foundation, said, “When I visited the Community Soup Kitchen, I was impressed by their efforts to feed those in need. It is a bustling and welcoming place. Their staff and volunteers are very dedicated individuals who provide a warm atmosphere for those in need of a hot meal or company. The Tariq Farid Foundation believes that everyone should have access to nourishing food, and is honored to support their important work through this grant.”
